If you take a Vitamin D or C pill every day, you’re not alone. More than half of Americans regularly take at least one vitamin pill. This begs the question, are natural supplements safe? The answer is yes, most supplements are safe to take, if used properly. However, there are certain things you should know if you are curious about natural supplements.

What Should I Know About Nutrition Supplements?

To begin with, there are a variety of different nutrition supplements. The most common supplements are:

  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin C
  • Calcium
  • Omega 3
  • Multivitamins

Typically, these supplements are recommended by a doctor. After examining your blood tests, they may notice any of these deficiencies. Therefore, it would be important to take those supplements. Generally, you should not exceed the daily value for any of these vitamins. In some cases, if the deficiency is severe, your doctor may recommend going past the daily value.

When you take too many supplements, you may experience side effects. For example, an excess of Vitamin B12 can lead to dizziness.

Could a Natural Supplement be Right for Me?

If your diet includes the proper amounts of vitamins and healthy oils, then you may not need a natural supplement. Fruits and vegetables are great sources of B vitamins. In addition, beef, chicken, and salmon can provide Vitamins B6 and B12. Oranges, red peppers, and broccoli also contain Vitamin D.

If you experience constant fatigue or joint pain, you may need to take natural supplements. In addition, you may need to take supplements if you have an autoimmune disorder or celiac disease.

Furthermore, if taken in moderation, supplements can improve energy levels and overall health.
