There are so many changes the body goes through in life. As we age, our metabolism slows, making it harder to lose weight. As this happens, women over 40 may have to also deal with menopause weight gain. Those unwanted extra pounds are a dastardly fact of life that can creep up on you if you aren’t looking for them.
The Wicked Ways of Midlife Weight Gain
You can’t go through life doing the same things you did yesterday. When you were in your 20s, your metabolism was through the roof! Or at least, it was much higher than it is now. Your body burned calories at a far greater rate than it does today.
We have to be cognizant of the fact that we’ll never have the same body we had when we were young. And that’s okay. With age comes wisdom. And with wisdom comes the opportunity to change. Weight gain in your 40s is common, natural, and sometimes happens even if you’re eating all the right things.
How to Not Gain Weight
What is the easy solution here? A healthy lifestyle comes from healthy habits, and that is what you want to achieve. Before (or after) any sudden weight gain occurs, you want to make the best choices for a healthier you. Cut your daily intake of processed foods as best you can, and replace all the junk with fruits, nuts, vegetables, and regular meals. Don’t fall into the trap of starving yourself. Your body needs good nutrients! So feed it what it needs!
It’s normal to gain weight as a result of stress, hormonal imbalances, and lack of sleep. The solution is to eat well, eat whole foods, and eat them consistently. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym, either. It starts with nutrition.
